One Saturday morning about six weeks ago, a couple of young journalists came to my house, microphones in hand, to ask me a bunch of questions about the political state of things in Chicago, where I've been obsessively following politics for over 30 years.

And counting!

Checking my calendar, I see this was on November 23—aka the day after Derrick Rose blew out his knee—so I was a little woozy, having spent the night tossing and turning in my grief.

Following my beloved Bulls is one of the main ways I get through our miserable winters.

In any event, the journalists were Micah Uetricht and Keeanga-Yamahtta Taylor, and they were putting together a podcast for Jacobin, a left-of-center magazine.

We had a rip-roaring blast of a time talking about this, that, and the other thing—including mayors Emanuel and Daley—for almost an hour as the el ran by.

That's the good news, folks. The el's still running in Chicago. Though the CTA's brought in this lousy Ventra system to collect our fares, and our mayor and his acolytes continue to search for new and innovative ways to mess things up.

Anyway, I'd all but forgotten the interview until I recently got a Facebook message from Micah telling me it had been posted.

Talking to young lefties in Chicago usually gives me high hopes for our political future, like we really are on the verge of electing someone other than the master. And maybe I won't have to rely on Derrick Rose's fragile knees to get me through the winter.

A guy can always hope.

Here's the link to the interview. Hope you enjoy.
