Reader's Agenda Sun 11/10: Orpheus & Euridyce, Umbrella Music Festival, and Studs' Place

Orpheus & Euridice
Looking for something to do today? Agenda's got you covered.

Today's your last chance to see Orpheus & Eurydice, a song cycle for clarinet, piano, and soprano set in a swimming pool. The show, performed at Eckhart Park, is an adaptation of a Greek myth, in which a gifted musician ventures to the underworld to fetch his wife.

Umbrella Music Festival wraps up tonight at Constellation. First comes a joint performance from free-jazz horn player Joe McPhee and Norwegian bassist Ingebrigt Håker Flaten, who Peter Margasak says "synch up perfectly in their mutual mastery of bluster and tenderness." Following them is a show by Dutch cornetist Eric Boeren, who is playing an all-Duke Ellington program with a slew of other instrumentalists.

Like a lot of us, the folks behind the historical tour and reenactment outfit Pocket Guide to Hell miss Studs Terkel. So they've set up a series of Terkel-inspired events, starting with a re-creation of an episode of his improvisational early-50s TV program, Studs' Place, that you can view at the Hideout.
