Throughout today's 12 O'Clock Track, "Mother Nature Fetish," the Philly four-piece Far-Out Fangtooth sing collectively in a blanketing dead tone, barely bothering to push their register past what a drugged zombie chorus would sound like at its most flamboyant. The takeaway is both eerie and weirdly entrancing. The whole track, in fact, sounds like it's happening in the background, with nothing taking charge as every guitar line and drum beat is being absorbed into a giant glob of psychedelia. It has a distinct goth tweak to it, no doubt, and the band is going for an ambiance that it's impossible not to notice them going for, but in the right mind and right space, it'll be a pretty good trip.

Far-Out Fangtooth visits the Whistler on Wed 11/6 at 9:30 PM. The Funs open. And it's free.
