Open your eyes to something exciting this weekend. Here’s what's going down in visual arts:

Thursday 9/26:

Ben Medansky at ODLCO The Los Angeles-based ceramicist hosts his first solo exhibition. Opening reception 5 to 8 PM.

Filter Photo Festival at various locations Trying to ramp up your photography skills? This is the place for you. The fest, which runs through the weekend, features tutorials on how to shoot and sell photos, with Saturday and Sunday dedicated to 20-minute portfolio reviews for budding photographers.

Friday 9/27:

Coyote 2013 at Flat Iron Arts Building The three-day art fair presented by the Flat Iron Artists Association kicks off Friday, featuring work from more than 150 sculptors, painters, and photographers, as well as musical performances.

Unfurling: Five Explorations in Art, Activism, and Archiving at Gray Center for the Arts and Inquiry Presented by Never the Same (Daniel Tucker and Rebecca Zorach), this exhibition features five artists' work, which seeks to make political and social connections to Chicago. Artists' reception 6 to 8 PM.

Saturday 9/28

Bone & Blood: Structural Bodies in Motion at Squid3 Gallery The first day of an exhibition of anatomy-inspired works curated by local artist Phillip Schalekamp. Aerial artists will be featured at the opening reception.

Sunday 9/29

The Distance Between at various locations The closing day of a show featuring the work of five artists in residence at the University of Chicago's Arts + Public Life and the Center for the Study of Race, Politics & Culture.
