The Arts Club is looking for volunteers with their own vintage duds (1920s to '70s) to take a turn at inhabiting the glass room artist Josiah McElheny has erected next to Mies van der Rohe's floating staircase in the club's lobby during lunchtime (11:30 AM to 12:30 PM Tuesday through Friday), now through December 14.

If last night's opener for The Club for Modern Fashions, carried off by professional actors, was an indication, they'll also need to be able to keep a straight face as they read, write, stalk around, or stare off into space, oblivious to each other and to the gallery visitors ogling them.

According to the rules, no modern technological devices (cell phones, laptops, etc) are allowed within the space, and there's no talking. I didn't see anything about nose picking or other activities that might liven the proceedings up a bit.

The reward (probably only for good behavior) is a free lunch in the club's dining room. Apply here.

The title-heavy exhibit, "Two Clubs at the Arts Club of Chicago," was created in collaboration with architect John Vinci, designer of the current Arts Club building; in addition to the installation, it includes a 2012 McElheny film, The Light Club of Vizcaya: A Women's Picture, screening in an adjacent space. Gallery hours are 11 AM to 6 PM Tuesday through Friday and 11 AM to 3 PM Saturday. Admission is free.
