The Chicago Jazz Festival is just two weeks away, which means jazz-related activities will be on the uptick for the next couple of weeks. On Friday night, for example, Chicago Film Archives will present three short films at 6916 S. Dorchester, just across the street from Black Cinema House, including a 1964 piece about Duke Ellington touring Japan, a 1971 film capturing Roberta Flack at the Newport Jazz Festival (even though she's not exactly a jazz singer), and a 1979 documentary about the great drummer Elvin Jones. The program is free and begins at 8:30 PM.

Today's playlist:

Lorenzo Senni, Quantum Jelly (Editions Mego)
Bernard Bonnier, Casse-Tête (Oral)
Motion Sickness of Time Travel, Motion Sickness of Time Travel (Spectrum Spools)
Raphaël Cendo, Furia (Aeon)
James Blackshaw, Love Is the Plan the Plan Is Death (Important)
