Stanley Con: What can we "offer" Boston?

Patrick Kane and the Blackhawks hope to bring Boston to its knees.
With the Blackhawks and the Boston Bruins about to face off for the Stanley Cup, you know we'll soon be hearing about one of those cliched mayoral bets.

Because the Blackhawks beat the Kings, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa owes Mayor Emanuel pastrami sandwiches, French dip sandwiches, mustard, burritos, chili sauce, cases of beer from L.A.'s Golden Rock and Eagle Rock breweries, and a DVD of YogaWorks for Everybody.

Mayor Emanuel had risked Al's Italian beef sandwiches, Robinson's ribs barbecue sauce, Eli's cheesecake, Goose Island's 312, and, to show our depth, a copy of this year's One Book, One Chicago selection, The Warmth of Other Suns.

For the series starting Wednesday in the United Center, I propose that if the Blackhawks prevail, Boston sends us a truckload of cream pies and a hundred cases of baked beans. If the Bruins win, we'll sadly surrender our parking meter contract (its provisions will apply only to Boston for the next 70 years) and a White Sox slugger whose big game in the fog last night boosted his average to .181.

In fact, win or lose, we'll let Boston have both of those, out of our midwestern generosity.
