It's been a big year for Chicago's rap scene, and plenty of MCs and producers have benefited from it by signing with labels big and small. That trend continued yesterday when beloved California label Stones Throw signed local rapper and producer Julian Malone.

To celebrate the good news today's 12 O'Clock Track is the video for Malone's "7Milli."

With it's woozy, funky beat, and sampled vocal hook "7Milli" feels akin to the work of one of Stones Throw's best-known artists, legendary hip-hop producer J Dilla. Take a listen below, and if you like what you hear be sure to check out some of Malone's other solo tracks and his work as a member of a 2008ighties offshoot group called the BRKF$T Club. Malone's 2012 mixtape, Enemy: The Time & Loves of Malone, is great, and BRKF$T Club's "The Fellowship" is one of my favorite local rap songs of the year.
