After folding Art Chicago this year, the Merchandise Mart's trying to shed its other major art fair properties, according to reports in art-world trade papers.

Word is that negotiations are underway to sell the giant New York Armory Show—which features over 200 dealers and logs about 60,000 visitors—to arts-media entrepreneur Louise Blouin. The Volta Show (Basel and New York) and Art Platform Los Angeles are also reportedly part of the package.

That makes it a short run for Merchandise Mart Properties Inc. in the heady, high-end art fair business, which it entered in a big way after making an eleventh-hour rescue of Art Chicago in 2006. MMPI purchased the Armory Show in 2007. MMPI did not respond to inquiries today.
