Alain's Restaurant opens today in the South Loop. Chef Alain Njike has collaborated with Chicago Bears' Israel Idonije and businessman Chad McClennan to create a cuisine with a blend of Southern, French, and Cameroonian influences. Alain's Restaurant, 1355 S. Michigan, 312-922-1186.

Randall Graham, Bonny Doon owner and winemaker, will be at Shaw's Crab House tonight for a wine dinner that includes six courses. The first features chilled Hawaiian ahi tartare with preserved Meyer lemon, tomato confit, and cold-pressed almond oil, paired with Bonny Doon Vin Gris de Cigare Rose 2011. Anthony Buccini speaks on "The Early History of Pasta:

At the tenth annual Wrigleyville SummerFest, there's live music, a kids' area, and food vendors, including AH Catering Grill & Kabobs, Creative Cooking, and Jose's Mexicorn. 8/4-8/5, Sat noon-10 PM, Sun noon- 9 PM, 3300 N. Seminary, $5.

More than 125 brews will be featured at the second annual Wheaton Ale Fest today. Attendees can vote on their favorite craft beer; the winner will receive the Illinois All-Star Ale Award. Tickets are available online. Noon-4 PM, Memorial Park, Wheaton, $15-$75.


The Scrumptious Pantry begins its first Heirloom 2.0 class series with a foraging class today, taught by gardener Sarah Baumgarten. Participants will learn how to identify edible plants, where to find good foraging locations, and more foraging tips. Refreshments and transportation to the foraging location will be provided. Tickets are available online. 10 AM-1 PM, class begins and ends at Scrumptious Pantry, 3230 W. Fullerton, 301-979-9751, $25.


Today the 4-Star Restaurant Group opens Crosby's Kitchen. Entrées include spicy pork ragu orecchiette and Pike's Place BBQ salmon. Kids can eat for free from 4:30 to 6 PM every day. Crosby's Kitchen, 3455 N. Southport, 773-883-2525.

Tonight's Chicago Gourmets event, "In the Kitchen with Calihan," features chef demonstrations and items from the menu such as petite lobster rolls, yellow tomato gazpacho, and berry cobbler. Tickets can be purchased online. 5:30 PM, Calihan Catering, 833 W Haines, $54.


Ada St. hosts a three-course dinner with Wild Ophelia chocolates tonight to benefit the not-for-profit The Healthy Schools Campaign.
