Jolly indeed
  • A slice of next week's festivities

With American Craft Beer Week—Chicago (May 15-18) and Chicago Craft Beer Week (May 17-27) on the way, this week's bar listings feature some of the heavy hitters from our bar guide.

The Local Option currently has four house-brewed beers on draft, among them the Kentucky Common, a sour, dark cream ale; Prospect Pils, a north-German-style pilsner; and a red lager, Anthony of Bourdainia. Others on tap include Alvinne's Belgian brown ale Freddy Wild and the Trappist-style Grassroots Korval, also a wild one.

Tonight at 8 PM Maria's Packaged Goods & Community Bar—home to more than 470 bottled beers in addition to 18 on tap—will host a listening party of Fela Kuti Live in Detroit, 1986 with DJ Joe Bryl.

At GT Fish & Oyster, site of this week's Cocktail Challenge featuring Johnny Costello Jr. and the ingredient stinging nettles, current drafts include Uinta's organic Baba Black Lager, Brooklyn Brewery's Sorachi Ace, and RedStreak English cider.

Small Bar Division is going all out next week, with an expansion from 21 to 24 taps in the works and Chicago Craft Beer Week events beginning with a kickoff featuring beers from Michigan's Jolly Pumpkin (Thu 5/17, 6 PM) and a celebration of Two Brothers Brewing Company's 15th anniversary (Sat 5/19, 4 PM).
