The theme for the latest Kulturkueche (cooking class) at DANK Haus is Schnitzel Spargel Spaetzle, named for the traditional German dish served during asparagus season: pork schnitzel, white asparagus, spaetzle dumplings, and hollandaise sauce. The tenth annual Green Festival features seven stages (including the Good Food Stage for cooking, gardening, and preserving) a kids' zone, fitness classes, environmental documentaries, and 218 exhibits. Smoke Daddy celebrates Cinco de Mayo with a mystery meat-filled pinata, plus traditional candy pinatas, and pork and chicken BBQ enchiladas. FYI: they recommend you "get your protective poncho out" when the "lucky" youngster takes his or her swings. 5 PM, Smoke Daddy, 1804 W. Division, 773-772-6656, free.

The Arts 'n' Drafts Cinco de Mayo pig roast features four live bands and (Ev Darst, Poor Elvis, The Dirty Generals, and You Black Kettle) a whole 100-pound pig roasted and shredded into tacos. It's sponsored by two home breweries (Powell Brew House and Corazon Brew), with proceeds going to Auxiliary Art Center's children's music and art classes. E-mail Powell Brew House for reservations.

Every Sunday during National Salsa Month a Dance Academy of Salsa instructor gives free dance lessons while the Chicago Mambo Salsa All Stars backs him and Cantina Laredo serves three house-made salsas. Cantina Laredo, 508 N. State, 312-955-0014, free.

A new monthly educational cocktail series debuts at Filini. Wirtz Beverage's Eric Hay teaches two sections on gin: the Bee's Knees, and mixing techniques, plus pours free booze. Reservations required. 5:45 or 6:30 PM, Filini, 221 N. Columbus, 312-477-0234, free.

Get a copy of chef Paul Virant's first cookbook and canning manual, The Preservation Kitchen, signed in Lincoln Square. Virant will also provide snacks. 6 PM, The Book Cellar, 4736-38 N. Lincoln, 773-293-2665, free.

Following their first wine and cupcake pairing event this winter, D.O.C. Wine Bar offers it again but at their suburban Lombard location. The flight consists of four wines (chardonnay, cabernet, rose, and prosecco) paired with four Molly's cupcakes for $20. 6 PM-close, D.O.C.
