A hint of one of the new dresses
Local bridal designer Veronica Sheaffer is getting lots of buzz for her vintage-inspired wedding gowns (remember, you read about her here first). For fall 2012, she's moving away from the full-skirt designs of past collections and into a slightly more contemporary look, using draped silk tulle, feathers, velvet leaves, and beading as accents. Sheaffer said she was inspired by the velvet leaves to create a collection with "a woodland princess vibe," although she stresses that it is still in line with her classic feminine aesthetic.

These made-in-Chicago pieces run from $1,600 to $5,600 and are complemented by accessories such as hair ornaments, veils, and sashes ($250 to $450). She'll also do custom orders. Sheaffer will reveal the new collection this Saturday at a showcase from 7 to 10 PM at Rational Park, 2557 W. North. The event includes an open bar and hors d'oeuvres from chef Ian Brannigan. It's free, but you must RSVP in advance on her website.
