A rare opportunity to enjoy a gourmet dinner and sneak preview of upcoming vintage railroad service is presented this weekend, as Pullman Sleeping Car Company will host three dining excursions from Union Station. Enjoy dinner on Friday or Saturday or brunch on Sunday, prepared by chef Dan Traynor, formerly of Prasino. Full service of the Pullman cars is scheduled to launch in October.

CityGrounds is offering a tasting of new blend from Passion House Coffee Roasters: the Rwanda Buf Café Red Bourbon. The coffee's described as “crystal clean with a sparkly lemon-lime clarity and crisp body.” 4-6 PM, CityGrounds Coffee Bar, 507 W. Dickens, 773-857-1576, free.

At the tasting "Vino with a View" at Cityscape Bar, on the 15th floor of the Holiday Inn Chicago Mart Plaza, attendees will also receive sample antipasti and a buy-one-get-one coupon for the adjoining ItaliAsia restaurant. It’s Barrel-Aged Beer Night at Paddy Long’s, featuring a selection of noteworthy drafts and bottles like Goose Island Bourbon County Coffee and Central Waters Bourbon Barrel Stout. Chef Jacquy Pfeiffer, cofounder of the French Pastry School, is lecturing on “The Endangered Art of French Hospitality," presented by the Culinary Historians of Chicago. Pfeiffer will discuss how the “gastronomic meal of the French” has evolved over the centuries and has come to be "a cultural practice in urgent need of safeguarding." The Red Canary is hosting an all-day Mardi Gras party featuring brunch from 10 AM-3 PM, dinner from 3 PM-midnight, and drinks until 3 AM. Specials include $8 Cajun gumbo, $4 "big ass" beers, and $8 hurricanes. There's an open bar from 9-10 PM and a party package from 10 PM-1 AM. The Red Canary, 695 N. The original strong ales outdoor winter beer festival takes place at Rock Bottom Chicago, where more than 25 selections from Chicago area microbreweries and a few national selections are highlighted. It’s a time warp back to the age of flappers and speakeasies tonight for just a nickel at the Gage’s “Blind Tiger” event. You’ll be ushered to the underground dining room for specialty cocktails, complimentary fare like "Drunken Rabbit Baked Beans" in tin bean cans, and burlesque performers. Tonight the Southern hosts a pig roast on their enclosed rooftop, featuring a whole roasted pig sliced tableside and two complimentary drinks. 6 PM, the Southern, 1840 W. North, 773-342-1840, $58 ChicaGourmet members, $68 nonmembers.

Klay Oven Kitchen's executive chef Hiran Patel-Klay offers a lunchtime demo and tasting on Indian cooking. Noon-1 PM, Chicago French Market, 131 N. Clinton, 312-575-0306, free.

At this Fat Tuesday crawfish-eating contest for charity, competitors will attempt to consume three pounds of crawfish to benefit Habitat for Humanity of New Orleans.
