Quicksails and Ryley Walker play a back-from-tour show Sunday

Local acts Quicksails and Ryley Walker have spent the past two weeks on what they've called the Bleak Horizons Tour, traveling to the east coast and back and hitting everywhere in between. Sunday night they play a homecoming show at a DIY space, and the bill is full of great solo acts top to bottom.

Quicksails is the solo synth project of Ben Billington, best known as the frantic drummer for on-again/off-again free-jazz trio Tigery Hatchery and Plastic Crimewave's psych-prog project Moonrises. It's too bad you won't be able to see Billington shred a drum kit this evening, but his work in Quicksails still showcases his knack for spastic, unconventional rhythms.

Ryley Walker has been making a name for himself lately with his technically outstanding solo guitar work. His John Fahey-inspired 12-string fingerpicking creates a beautiful, airy mood that it's easy to get lost and drift away into, even as you're dazzled by his virtuosic dexterity. Here's an especially pretty performance of his:

Opening are two local electronic artists: Flowerman (aka Chris Bush of Caboladies) and 56K, a new drone project from Josh Burke. The all-ages show is Sun 12/18 at 9 PM, and admission is a $5 suggested donation. It's at Ball Hall, which means I'm not going to post the address here, but Google knows it.
