I've got my rituals. Each December my wife and I throw a party in honor of Walt Whitman, partly to see friends and partly to remind ourselves that "every atom belonging to me as good belongs to you." Each Yom Kippur I fast and pray, not out of fear, awe, piety, love, or even belief, necessarily, but to connect myself to something ancient and cleansing. And each October I allow myself the Incredible String Band's "October Song." I don't sing or listen to it from November to September. I'd never so much as hum it in July. It's an October song. This being October, I thought I'd share it with you.
