They've been our archrivals for the last several years, but what honest Sox fan could fail to have respect for the Twins? I'm with Steve Wynn on this one, and was shocked last night to hear the normally preternaturally polite Minnesota fans boo Joe Mauer, of all people.

The Sox may have won their third straight from the Twinkies Twins on Tuesday, but there's certainly no cause for schadenfreude after a sweep at the hands of Detroit that has almost certainly knocked us out of contention for losing in the first round of the playoffs again. Still, I remain amused at a jeer overheard on the radio during Monday's doubleheader—"Don't do what Dunn would do!" (If Ed Farmer hadn't been doing play-by-play, maybe I would know which player this was directed to rather than where he attended high school.)

Perhaps Dunn himself took this to heart: while he's at 158 K, he had three walks last night and scored a run, bringing him to 33 in 372 ABs for the season. All that while manning first base!

Still, after having sucked their way out of the AL Central pennant race , the Sox are showing . . .
