  • A for-real moon rock
America's space police have questioned a woman who allegedly tried to sell them a moon rock for $1.7 million at a Lake Elsinore Denny's—a location that carries some symbolic value. Apparently, selling "moon rocks and other space artifacts" is illegal even at popular chain restaurants. Like this skull and box of random stuff, and blog posts written entirely to justify puns embedded in their titles, moon rocks are national treasures.

As far as rocks go, the one at the center of this controversy is very dull and unattractive, and doesn't seem to do anything useful. Oh, and it might not even be from the moon to begin with—an investigation is ongoing, says a Riverside County Sheriff's Department report. You're probably like, "of course it's not real—it's supposed to be from the moon. No airline goes there." But as it turns out, there's a whole space-trinket black market where people sell moon rocks, rocket parts, astronauts, stuff like that. If you weren't aware of this already, then maybe it's time to put down your pet rocks and get out there, live life a little.
