Victory Gardens Theater announced today that award-winning, peripatetic playwright/director Chay Yew, 46, will replace retiring artistic director and legend, Dennis Zacek. Born in Singapore and the founding director of the Asian Theatre Workshop at Los Angeles's Mark Taper Forum, Yew has worked with top theater companies across the country and internationally, though never at VG. His most recent work here was Dael Orlandersmith's Black 'n' Blue Boys/Broken Men, which he directed for the Goodman Theatre's New Stages series last January. Now based in New York, he'll move to Chicago and start at VG in July.
