As the familiar, numbing cold of death settles over the city, not to depart for months, it's smart to plan an outing or two to stave off cabin fever. The current batch of Early Warnings provides a solid selection of opportunities, though some of the dates announced this week are flirting with warmer weather.

Lincoln Hall's roster of new shows is especially strong and includes the Ex, the Low Anthem, Trombone Shorty, Wild Nothing with Abe Vigoda, and the Elephant 6 Holiday Surprise Tour; Schubas will host Broken Records and a solo show from Ted Leo.

Also in the next few months: the, er, multitalented Liz Phair visits Metro, Celtic punks Flogging Molly play the Congress Theater, the Get Up Kids make old emo nerds feel young again at Lincoln Hall, rapper Lyrics Born hits the Abbey Pub, and Rush rolls through the United Center (with an extra truck for all of Neil Peart's drums).
