  • Chicago Bicycle Program
The Chicago Bicycle Program just posted this Flickr series of workers creating bike lanes on Grand and Illinois east of Orleans. The funding for the project came from 42nd Ward alderman Brendan Reilly's discretionary "menu fund"—and there's more funding for bike initiatives, from another source, on the way. The Active Transportation Alliance announced last week that bicycle projects in Illinois will receive an unprecedented $49 million in federal transportation money through the Illinois Transportation Enhancement Program (the entire program was awarded $90 million). Projects funded by the money will include a cycle track (a bikeway that separates bikes and cars) on Stony Island Avenue, the completion of the 26-mile Calumet-Sag Trail, Veterans Memorial Trail, and Burnham Greenway.
