Sales, Openings, and Other Fashion Events Through the Weekend

There's a lot going on tonight, especially on the newly revitalized Oak Street, where la vita e bella for Italian luxury brands. The Italian fine jewelry boutique Pomellato holds an opening party for its new boutique at 41 E. Oak from 5 to 8 PM; proceeds from the event's sales go to the Lincoln Park Zoo. Down the street, Italian handbag retailer Furla holds a reopening party at 106 E. Oak to show off the remodeled digs—the store is now the only franchise operation in the continental U.S., owned by the Ifergans of Charles Ifergan Salon. It's from 6 to 8:30 PM; 10 percent of the proceeds will go to the Apparel Industry Board.

On State Street, local designer Michelle Tan hosts the official opening party for her Block 37 store, on the second level at 108 E. State,from 6 to 8 PM; RSVP to michelletanrsvp@gmail.com.

On Saturday, New York clothing designer Karolina Zmarlak comes to town for a trunk show of her spring collection; she'll also have samples from previous seasons. It's at Charles Ifergan Salon, 106 E. Oak, from 10 AM to 6 PM. At Wicker Park's Eskell, 1509 N. Milwaukee, there's a trunk show for two local jewelry designers who offer striking work, Meghan Lorenz of Cities in Dust and Laura Lombardi. Each will raffle off a piece of jewelry and the store is offering 25 percent off additional purchases. And at Cerato Boutique, 3451 N. Southport, Chicago fashion designer Anna Fong will be on hand on Saturday from 1 to 6 PM and on Sunday from 1 to 5 PM for a trunk show of holiday designs.

On Saturday night, the event "Necessary Taboos" brings together local and nonlocal designers and stylists, who team up to create pieces of wearable art that reference taboos. Local participants include Evil Kitty and JoJo Baby. It's from 7 to 10 PM at Creative Lounge Chicago, 1564 N. Damen.

Clever Alice is currently holding its fall/winter sample sale of pieces from French clothing line MC Planet and Italian label Nioi. Jackets have been reduced from $350 to $100-$150, dresses are priced at $60-$100 (down from $250), and sweaters that were originally $450 are $85-$150. It runs through November.
