San Francisco Evening Bulletin, April 11, 1887. As a militant Protestant organization, of English origin, wearing military uniforms but packing no actual heat, and prone to getting beaten up even in predominantly Protestant cities, the Salvation Army was truly cruising for a bruising up in Quebec, the capital of Catholic French Canada.
