Chicago Tribune, January 1, 1908. I assume these are national statistics, not municipal. I must do some research into the matter of perilous electric swings and scenic railroads. It was tough luck for that lone victim of the discus. A mere six killed at Halloween strikes me as pretty modest, because papers at this time used to run a lot of stories about Halloween pranks gone fatally wrong. I should probably dig some of those up for the good of the commonweal. The reference to June 17 troubles in Boston and Charlestown, Mass., have to do with an unusually boisterous commemoration there of the Battle of Bunker Hill. When did Bunker Hill Day get dropped from the national calendar, anyway?
