This What Democracy Looks Like When You Haven't Used It In Twenty Years

I like politics; I read about it, write about it, vote, donate, and sometimes volunteer. What I don't understand about it is why anyone actually runs for office. Consider, if you will, the spectacle of Rahm Emanuel—master fundraiser, recently departed White House chief of staff, former House member—busking for attention at an El station. And for his trouble, he gets dinged by Tom Dart strategist Joe Trippi for shooting his welcome-home video in DC.

I assume the race will get more substantial once we shake the dust off.
