Music

Show: Marina & the Diamonds "On 'Oh No!'—the fourth single from her debut, The Family Jewels (Chop Shop)—Welsh/Greek singer-songwriter Marina Diamandis takes the postmodern anxiety pop of Lily Allen's 'The Fear' and ups the ante by detailing the desperation fostered by consumer culture and the internal war she has to fight to keep it at bay," writes Jessica Hopper. "The Family Jewels is a rare treat: anticapitalist pop with an Abba-perfect candy coating."

9 PM, Lincoln Hall, 2424 N. Lincoln, 773-525-2501, lincolnhallchicago.com, $15, 18+.

Dinner: Aloha Eats Formerly Aloha Grill, this is one of few Chicago restaurants specializing in island fare.

Performing Arts

Show: Jim Breuer These days the sleepy-eyed 43-year-old comic is transitioning out of munchie jokes. His soon-to-be-released book, I'm Not High (Gotham), and current tour present a grown-up Breuer whose laughs come mostly from his misadventures as a father.

7:30 pm, Chicago Improv, 5 Woodfield Rd., Schaumburg, 847-240-2001

Dinner: Retro Bistro Inauspiciously located in a Mount Prospect strip mall, this contemporary bistro is worth the trip. The cuisine, while grounded in French classics, is distinctly modern.

1746 W. Golf Rd., 847-439-2424, retrobistro.com

Show: That Pretty Pretty, or the Rape Play Billy Bermingham is back. A bad boy of 1990s Chicago theater, thanks mainly to his Cannibal Cheerleaders on Crack, Bermingham has re-emerged to direct Sheila Callaghan's eccentric, angry, daring, profane, sometimes wildly funny comic drama.

8 pm, Charnel House, 3421 W. Fullerton, 773-871-9046, thecharnelhousechicago.com

Dinner: Gloria's Cafe "Reopened under new ownership (with an actual Gloria at the helm) this little Colombian joint is putting out lovingly made home-style plates, along with more casual coffeehouse-oriented bites and drinks," writes Mike Sula.

3300 W. Fullerton Ave., 773-342-1050

Movies

Show: Alamar Less a documentary than a naturalistic prose poem, this Mexican feature reveals in all its hardship and beauty a vanishing way of life: the daily work of fishermen who ply the giant coastal reefs of Mexico's Edenic Banco Chinchorro.

6:15 pm, Gene Siskel Film Center, 164 N. State St., 312-846-2600, siskelfilmcenter.org

Dinner: Carson's Restaurant "With the smiley-face yellow of its logo, mansard roof, and funky stucco exterior, Carson’s would make a good setting for an episode of That 70s Show. But let’s face it, you don’t go to Carson’s for the decor. You go for the meat, and they got it, baby, along with some surprisingly good seafood (notably, the shrimp de jonghe and tasty crab cakes)," writes David Hammond. Part of this week's Chicago barbecue roundup.
