  • Gaida

Show: Gaida "Gaida Hinnawi's first album, Levantine Indulgence, captures a sensibility that radiates expansively outward from the Fairuz and Umm Kalthoum songs she learned as a child," writes Peter Margasak. "She's rooted in classical Arabic and folk sounds as well as vintage Lebanese pop, but working with jazz musicians—in particular trumpeter Amir ElSaffar, a longtime collaborator who was very involved in the making of the record—broadened her vocabulary further, resulting in some surprisingly breezy hybrids." Gaida also plays Wednesday at the Old Town School.

Midnight, Katerina's, 1920 W. Irving Park, 773-348-7592, katerinas.com, $10.

Dinner: Cafe 28 You could easily drive right past this Cuban-Mexican eatery, inconspicuously located near the Brown Line tracks on Irving Park, but Raters are high on the eclectic food, big portions, and reasonable prices. "One of the best restaurants in the city for the money," says one.

1800 W. Irving Park Rd., 773-528-2883, cafe28.org

Show: The Concert Cross the cold war nostalgia of Good Bye, Lenin! with the larcenous high jinks of The Producers and you’ve got the gist of this zany Russian screwball comedy.

2:45 pm, 5:15 pm, 7:40 pm, Pipers Alley, 230 W. North Ave., 312-642-6275

Dinner: Bistro Margot Charming, reasonably priced French bistro in Old Town.

1437 N. Wells St., 312-587-3660, bistrotmargot.com

Show: The Kids Are All Right "Plenty of movies strive for topicality, but occasionally something like The Kids Are All Right slaps you in the face with the world you're actually living in," writes J.R. Jones.

1 pm, 4 pm, 7 pm, 8:45 pm, 10 pm, Landmark's Century Centre, 2828 N. Clark St., 773-509-4949

Dinner: Erwin Mark Bittman, the New York Times's minimalist, would approve of Erwin, the namesake restaurant of chef Erwin Drechsler. The emphasis is on seasonal food prepared simply, to bring out the freshness of the ingredients.

2925 N. Halsted St., 773-528-7200, erwincafe.com
