On Sun 7/24, 27 teams compete in the 10th annual Chicago Dragon Boat Race for Literacy, hosted by the Chicago Chinatown Chamber of Commerce. The event kicks off at 9 AM with the "Awakening the Dragon and Lion Dance" ceremony at Ping Tom Memorial Park (300 W. 19th). Several aldermen and state and local officials are scheduled to attend, and former NBC 5 anchor Ellee Pai Hong emcees. Festivities continue until 5 PM, with family-friendly entertainment including musical, dance, and acrobatics performances, food, crafts, and corporate vendors. Proceeds benefit the Chicago Public Schools literacy program.
