Bill Salas was already onto some cool shit when I profiled him in 2007 and he was still concentrating on his solo act, Brenmar Someday. Since then he's moved to Brooklyn and joined These Are Powers, which is maybe the most stylistically unpredictable but solidly consistent band going at the moment; Salas has inflected their guitar-noisy sound with everything from grime to electro-pop. A great new DJ mix he just dropped for free online reflects both his newfound taste for the Angola-born electronic dance style called kuduro and his love for radio R & B. You can hear hints of both in the new These Are Powers song, "Anything Above Nothing," which is also available for free download.
