Music

Show: Man Forever A side project of Oneida drummer Kid Millions, Man Forever pays homage to Lou Reed's Metal Machine Music—or, more specifically, to the score for Metal Machine Music developed by 11-piece acoustic ensemble Zeitkratzer—with layers of sped-up and slowed-down drum rolls, played on precisely tuned acoustic drums and laced with bass feedback. Man Forever's all-star road band includes bassist Richard Hoffman (Sightings) and drummers Brian Chase (Yeah Yeah Yeahs), Shahin Motia (Knyfe Hyts), and Allison Busch (Awesome Color); for this stop they'll be joined by drummers Seth Sher (Coughs, Ga'an) and Dylan Ryan (Herculaneum, Icy Demons).

9:30 PM, Empty Bottle, 1035 N. Western, 773-276-3600, emptybottle.com, $8.

Dinner: Rootstock Wine & Beer Bar Three former staffers at Webster's Wine Bar are behind this lounge offering small-production wines and beers, charcuterie, and small plates. Part of our outdoor dining roundup and one of the best new Chicago restaurants of 2009.

954 N. California Ave., 773-292-1616, rootstockbar.com

Movies

Show: Daddy Longlegs Ronald Bronstein, who wrote and directed the disquieting indie Frownland, steps in front of the cameras for this similarly lo-fi drama, and his loose-limbed performance as the brash, irresponsible father of two young boys establishes him as a genuine triple threat.

6:15pm, 8:15pm, Gene Siskel Film Center, 164 N. State St., 312-846-2600, siskelfilmcenter.org

Dinner: Park Grill This enormous space has views of the McCormick Tribune ice rink and Michigan Avenue; every seat is a good one. Part of our outdoor dining roundup.

11 N. Michigan Ave., 312-521-7275, parkgrillchicago.com

Performing Arts

Show: The Rise of Emperor Eric The childlike charm of this loose, 60-minute comedy belies its self-assured wit.

9:30pm, Gorilla Tango Theatre, 1919 N. Milwaukee Ave., 773-598-4549, gorillatango.com, $12

Dinner: 90 Miles Cuban Cafe The second outpost of Alberto and Christine Gonzalez's Cuban cafe has table seating and a charming outdoor dining area in addition to a counter, but it retains the warmth of the tiny original on Clybourn, as well as sharing the menu.

2540 W. Armitage Ave., 773-227-2822, 90milescubancafe.com

Show: Vintage Magic Uncorked Forget Vegas showplaces—magic fares best when it's just close enough to confound. An intimate, 35-seat room over the Andersonville wine bar In Fine Spirits is a swell venue for magician/raconteur Sean Masterson and his eye-popping, mind-boggling parlor tricks.

7:30pm, In Fine Spirits, 5420 N. Clark St., 773-334-9463, infinespirits.com, $13

Dinner: Tanoshii To best experience Tanoshii, put yourself in the hands of chef Mike Ham (better known as Sushi Mike).

5547 N. Clark St., 773-878-6886
