Here's that ironic twee-pop cover of the Insane Clown Posse's "Miracles" you've been waiting for:

The thing that cracks me up most about cutesy-pie indie covers of rap songs, pop songs, and other "guilty pleasures" is that the artists always seem to think they're doing something clever. Not to shit on Sufjan Stevens Jr. & Friends' parade, but songs that turn into Internet memes spawn ironic twee-pop covers as reliably as high-charting songs spawn knockoff versions by iTunes scammers like the Hit Masters.

I mean, yeah, the Insane Clown Posse are idiots. They are such idiots that it's absolutely hilarious. Do we need to put air quotes around "Miracles" to be able to laugh at it? Is it even possible to improve on the comic value of a grown man wearing clown makeup doing a rap song about how mind-blowing it is for him to contemplate a pelican that once tried to eat his cell phone? And to all appearances he's serious about it?

People should remember that we hit Peak Irony back in 1995, well before that bluegrass cover of "Gin and Juice." We don't have enough reserves to last us forever. Maybe we should find a better use for it than playing Kesha on a ukulele. Maybe indie rock should try to learn from one of the only two things Juggalo culture has gotten right: its complete and total lack of irony.

The other thing, of course, is that it's helping keep Faygo in business. I don't even want to imagine a world without Rock & Rye soda.
