5/5-5/7 — Free Academic Freedom Symposium at the University of Chicago

Starting today, the University of Chicago is hosting a symposium on academic freedom with three days of free workshops, panel discussions, and lectures. The kick-off takes place tonight at 6:15 PM in the McCormick-Tribune Lounge (Reynolds Club, 5706 S. University) with a panel discussion on academic freedom worldwide, featuring U of C professors Aziz Huq (law) and Bernard Wasserstein (history), U of C students, and moderator Sarah Bray, senior editor at the Chronicle of Higher Education. More events take place tomorrow, Thu 5/6 from noon to 6:45 PM, and again on Fri 5/7 from 10:30 AM to 3 PM; see the symposium's Facebook page for more specific info. The Reader's Mick Dumke will participate in "Student Journalism and Academic Freedom," a panel discussion, on Fri 5/7 from 10:30 to 11:30 AM at Ida Noyes Hall, Rm. 216 (1212 E. 59th).
