Pavement Tour Diary: Nagoya, Japan

Posted By on 04.19.10 at 01:18 PM

Our third and final city in Japan: Nagoya, famous for its chicken wings and the little "live house" in the mall. I watched the others eat a lot of ramen, and a Japanese fan got onstage to bow to the different band members! I can't remember the last time someone jumped onstage in Japan.

Sayonara, Japan! See you again at Summer Sonic in a few months!

There were directions on how to eat them printed on the chopstick wrapper.

After the show we went out singing karaoke, which is pretty standard fare here in Japan. "Walk the Line" went over well. "Walk This Way" did even better. I have to wonder, though: Does anyone not in Styx actually know the verses to Styx songs? Forty dollars for two hours of singing, all you can drink, and all the Pocky you can eat!

On our way home we flew out of the Nagoya International Airport. Easily the best airport outside of Scandinavia I've ever flown through. Feel free to end your trip with lots of yen left over, 'cause you can just spend everything you have at the airport! More restaurants than I've ever seen, a killer observation deck, and not that many travelers either! (Yes, robocop was scooting around the joint too.)

One of the best soba noodles Ive ever had. It was in the airport!

PS: I went into Tower Records here and saw a huge Jim O'Rourke display? Complete surprise to me. Doing sound for Jim's Japanese tour in 2000 was the first time I ever left the country! Thanks again, Jim!

Hes always got a display at Tower!
