Oer the Land

  • "O'er the Land"

Lieutenant Colonel WIlliam Rankin's 1959 ordeal—being trapped in the sky by air currents after ejecting from his fighter jet at 45,000 feet with no pressure suit—frames footage of machine gun target shooters, battle reenactors and cheerleaders in Deborah Stratman's meditation on Manifest Destiny, O'er the Land.

The experimental documentary, which premiered at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival, screens Monday 4/19 at 7 PM at UIC's 3290 Film Cub. It's in room 3226 at Art and Design Hall, 400 S. Peoria, and it's free.
