Now that it's both spring and tax season, readings and lectures are appealing events, and there are some good ones this week; all but the last one (David Sedaris, natch) are free.

David Remnick discusses The Bridge: The Life and Rise of Barack Obama with the Trib's Elizabeth Taylor (also a fine political biography author in her own right). Tuesday 4/13, 6pm, Harold Washington Library Center, 400 S. State St.

The felicitously named Goldie Goldbloom, author of the new novel Toads' Museum of Freaks and Wonders; "one of the most satisfying pieces of writing I've read in some time," writes Jerome Ludwig. Tuesday 4/13, 7pm, Book Stall at Chestnut Court, 811 Elm St. in Winnetka.

More after the jump:

Northwestern alum Roxana Saberi discusses her memoir, Between Two Worlds: My Life and Captivity in Iran. Tuesday 4/13, 4pm, McCormick Tribune Center, Northwestern University, 1870 Campus Dr.

Vocalo blogger and Chicago Central Area Committee executive director Lee Bey discusses "Harold's Chicago: How Mayor Washington Changed the Face of the City". Thursday 4/15, 6pm, Harold Washington Library Center, auditorium, 400 S. State St.

Aleksandar Hemon reads from Love and Obstacles. Thursday 4/15, 7pm, Sulzer Regional Library, 4455 N. Lincoln Ave.

Joe Meno reads from his novel The Great Perhaps, just out in paperback. Friday 4/16, 7pm, Quimby's, 1854 W. North Ave.

David Sedaris reads "all-new, unpublished stories." Saturday 4/17, 8pm, Auditorium Theatre, 50 E. Congress Pkwy., $35-$50
