As every entrepreneur knows, sometimes you have to tweak your business plan in response to customer feedback. So Kathryn McKechnie of Crescendo Apparel made some changes in her company's spring collection.

McKechnie originally planned to focus mainly on pants and skirts, cut to reflect the way most women are shaped, with wider hips and thinner waists. But her customers wanted to be able to see and buy whole outfits, so the line now includes simple jersey tops, as well as dresses.

McKechnie's narrowed her customer base to women in their 40s and up, but the focus of the line is still on pieces that are timeless and elegant—wide pants, linen shorts, narrow skirts—including some that hit mid-calf (often a tough length for those not blessed with long legs).

Not surprisingly, price turned out to be a hot issue, so most pieces now cost under $250.

Crescendo Apparel is available through the trunk shows, at the showroom, and private events.
