The winter session of Facets Film School begins Monday 2/22 with weekly screenings and lectures on musicals of the 70s and 80s, screwball comedy star Carole Lombard, Billy Wilder's buddy comedies, and neorealism and its descendants.

Patrick Friel's course on musicals includes Saturday Night Fever, All That Jazz, Popeye, One From the Heart, Pennies From Heaven, and Absolute Beginners, Mondays 2/22 to 3/29, 7-10 PM.

Stephen Reginald covers Lombard's Twentieth Century, Hands Across the Table, The Princess Comes Across, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, and To Be or Not to Be. Tuesdays 2/23 to 3/30.

James Francis Flynn's course features Wilder's Some Like It Hot, Irma La Douce, The Fortune Cookie, The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes, The Front Page, and Buddy Buddy. Wednesdays 2/24 to 3/31.

Kate Balsley tracks neorealist tendencies from The Bicycle Thief through Pather Panchali, Killer of Sheep, Taste of Cherry, Ratcatcher and Wendy and Lucy. Thursday 2/25 to 4/1.

Each course is $125, $80 for members, 7-10 PM at Facets, 1517 W. Fullerton.
