Marlon Brando in Burn!

  • Marlon Brando in "Burn!"

La Biblioteca Popular hosts a Haiti benefit screening of the 1969 Marlon Brando drama Burn! on Saturday 1/23.

Brando stars as a mercenary who helps instigate a slave revolt against Portugal in a fictional Caribbean sugar colony, then works for the British to put down the revolt.

This is director Gillo Pontecorvo's followup to his similarly anticolonialist 1966 masterpiece The Battle of Algiers.

Burn! screens Saturday 1/23 at 7 PM at La Biblioteca Popular, 1921 S. Blue Island.
