Free Creative Writing Classes

The Northwestern University School of Continuing Studies is offering free creative writing classes on Saturday and Sunday, December 5 and 6. (However they will be accepting donations for the Young Chicago Authors literacy promotion organization.)

Instructors are students in NU's creative writing MA/MFA program. Classes will be held at 405 Church in Evanston. To register and for further descriptions e-mail scs@northwestern.edu.

Times and topics are:

Saturday

10 AM: Painting With Words: Creating a Setting That Transports Your Reader
11 AM: Bits and Pieces: Appreciating Collage and Mosaic Writing
Noon: Taking the Me Out of Memoir: Perspectives in Memoir Writing
2 PM: Choosing a Point of View: Five Ways to Tell a Story
3 PM: He Said, She Said: Developing Dialogue in Fiction
4 PM: Combining Words and Images: Visual Storytelling for the Writer

Sunday

10 AM: Writing for the Ear: Oral Storytelling
11 AM: Generating Ideas: Free-Writing Techniques for Unblocking the Mind
Noon: Putting Poetic Muscle Into Your Prose
2 PM: Sidekicks: Give Your Character a Friend
3 PM: Do-It-Yourself Publishing and Distribution: Taking Chapbooks and Novellas Into Your Own Hands
