Food & Drink Dill Pickle Co-op Opens in Logan Square

Four-and-a-half years in the making, the Dill Pickle Food Co-op (3039 W. Fullerton) in Logan Square will finally open its doors this Saturday at noon. After passing its building and health inspections, the 2,500-square-foot member-owned grocery store announced its opening date at a Quenchers benefit show November 20, and members have been stocking the shelves with local, organic goods for the past week (read more about the process on the co-op's blog). As both a Logan Square resident and member (#183 to be exact), I'm pretty excited to check out Chicago's one and only food co-op.

While the official grand opening is Saturday, December 12 (complete with a mini-parade, ribbon cutting, and tastings of food from local vendors), this Saturday and Sunday members get a 10 percent discount. If you're not a member, you can sign up online or in the store this weekend (a minimum of $50 will get you started; a full membership is $250). Anyone can shop at the co-op, but members get some discounts and a patronage rebate at the end of each year that the co-op makes a profit.

The co-op is open Monday-Saturday noon-8 PM and Sunday 10 AM-6 PM.
