Some of tonight's best events, as recommended by our music, movie, and performing arts critics—and where to eat before or afterward.

Music

Show: DJ/Rupture and Matt Shadetek "Their latest collaboration is a mix CD called Solar Life Raft (The Agriculture) that mashes together a mess of styles that fall along the axis joining reggae, dancehall, and dubstep, creating something deep, dark, and extremely addictive," writes Miles Raymer. (They're also good bloggers.)

10 PM, Empty Bottle, 1035 N. Western, 773-276-3600 or 866-468-3401, $10, free with RSVP to rsvp@emptybottle.com.

Dinner: Andrzej Grill, 1022 N. Western. "Serving a dining room about the size of a one-car garage, Andrzej and Anna Burak crank out traditional dishes for a steady stream of Polish folks who know what the food of their homeland should taste like."

Show: Paul Lewis The young British pianist, a Gramophone award-winner, makes his debut with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra performing Mozart's exquisite Piano Concerto No. 12; Christoph von Dohnanyi conducts.

8 PM, Orchestra Hall, Symphony Center, 220 S. Michigan, 312-294-3000, $22-$199.

Dinner: Cibo Matto, 201 N. State. "Cibo Matto could pass as Spiaggia's more playful, easygoing younger sibling"; one of the Best New Restaurants of 2009.

Movies

Show: La Danse: The Paris Opera Ballet "Documentary filmmaker Frederick Wiseman applies his famously organic storytelling style to the Paris Opera Ballet, and the result is a dance film like no other," writes J.R. Jones.

Music Box, 3733 N. Southport, 773-871-6604, 5:30 and 8:30 pm.

Dinner: Pizza Rustica, 3913 N. Sheridan. "Every Italian restaurant likes to think that its food is the real thing. Pizza Rustica's just may be."

Show: Tetro "For his first original screenplay since The Conversation (1974), Francis Ford Coppola drew on memories of his parents, both classical musicians, and he invests the movie's early scenes, shot in black and white among the old-world architecture of Buenos Aires, with all the control and delicacy of a piano sonata."

Doc Films, 1212 E. 59th
773-702-8575, 7pm.

Dinner: La Petite Folie, 1504 E. 55th St. "Michael and Mary Mastricola, both former U. of C. students and longtime Hyde Park residents, decamped to Paris in the mid-90s so Mary could attend the Cordon Bleu cooking school, then returned to Chicago to open this charming restaurant serving spectacular baguettes and a wide range of French classics."

Performing Arts

Show: A Very Merry Unauthorized Children's Scientology Pageant The life and teachings of Church of Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard get the Sunday school Christmas pageant treatment in this hilarious 2003 comedy by Kyle Jarrow and Alex Timbers.

A Red Orchid Theater, 1531 N. Wells, 312-943-8722, $15-$25

Dinner: Zaiqa Indian Restaurant, 858 N. Orleans. Clandestine-feeling Indian restaurant with a clientele heavy on cabdrivers and a limited but delicious menu.

Show: How to Disappear Completely and Never Be Found Fin Kennedy's 2007 black comedy is whimsical, savage, and invigoratingly chaotic.

Mary-Arrchie Theatre Company, Angel Island, 731 W. Sheridan, $5-$22

Dinner: Tweet Let's Eat, 5020 N. Sheridan, 773-728-5576. Breakfast and brunch spot now offering sit-down dinner on Fridays in the lounge at Big Chicks next door; emphasis on regional and organic ingredients.
