Sharing My Current Earworm

Last week someone played me A Date With John Waters, a compilation of what the director considers "seduction music." Apparently Waters thinks Eileen Barton's "If I Knew You Were Comin' I'd've Baked a Cake" would make an effective aphrodisiac! It turns out that the compilation consists in large part of songs I already had a thing for, though the versions it includes aren't necessarily my favorites. (I prefer the Damned's "Jet Boy, Jet Girl" and Steve Martin and Bernadette Peters's performance of "Tonight You Belong to Me" from the Jerk. But I'll take the Patience & Prudence version in a pinch.)

The one song I wasn't already a fan of but that really popped out was John Prine and Iris DeMent's "In Spite of Ourselves," taken from a Prine duets record of the same name. Immediately after getting home I bought the album from iTunes. The rest of the record is really good, but "In Spite" is by far the standout track. It's also been stuck in my head almost constantly since I heard it. If you feel like risking the pleasurable torture of having it jamming up your brain on a constant loop of sweetly corny romanticizin', help yourself after the jump. Skip ahead to 1:30 unless you really want to hear Prine talking at length about Billy Bob Thornton.
