Here's a handful of new and building-out spots to be found around town, none of them as starkly cynical and unoriginal as the not-yet-open Houndoug's, currently under construction at 237 W. North. Watch out Doug Sohn, they're coming for you.

This one seemed to slip by everyone, and it's pretty exciting. In mid-June the venerable Devon Avenue Good Morgan Kosher Fish Market quietly opened a full-service restaurant next door, Morgan Harbor Grill, captained by chef Erik Williams late of Bin 36 and Volo. There's an extensive menu of sushi and chef's specialties such as miso-glazed cedar plank grilled escolar, gefilte fish and basil gnocchi, huachinango for two, grilled fillets, hand-cut fries, and hush puppies. It's kosher parve and, at the moment, BYO kosher wine and nonflavored beer. The fish market has been offering takeaway sushi since February. 2948 W. Devon, 773-764-8115

Paprika, a tiny Indian spot in a Lawrence Avenue strip mall, opened last week offering the usual range of northern Indian standards; nevertheless, it's a welcome addition to the street's polyethnic offerings, which surprisingly lack subcontinental representation. 2547A W. Lawrence, 773-338-4906

An unlikely Italian-Filipino combo called Dolce has opened down the street from Arun's, featuring whiplash juxtapositions such as penne salsiccia and tocino, and lumpia and caprese salad. It's a limited menu for the moment, with one app and one entree currently going for a gambler-friendly $14.95. Gosh, with Brisku's and D'Candela just to the south, this sleepy little section of Kedzie is become a regular restaurant row. 4114 N. Kedzie, 773-866-1910

Finally an unnamed "pub" with what appears to be a large rooftop dining area is building out on the corner of Damen and Montrose, just in time for fall's balmy breeezes.
