Normally this is the time of year I look forward to learning Lampo's fall lineup. One of the midwest's greatest advocates for experimental music, Lampo has been presenting dynamic work, often in exclusive U.S. engagements, from some of the world's most important sound artists and musicians for more than a decade. But no announcement of a fall schedule is coming: today Lampo director Andrew Fenchel informed me that the organization is once again without a home.

After moving out of 6 Odum (2116 W. Chicago) in 2007, Lampo took up residence in a wonderful, raw second-floor space at 216 W. Chicago, which for two years was donated to the group. Fenchel writes that the owner was “unbelievably generous, and made it possible for us to use the small resources we have for things other than rent. Now the owner has different plans for the space. I don't know specifically what his business plans are, but they don't include continuing to donate the space.”

This development has forced Lampo to put its fall programs on hold; the concerts, which hadn’t been announced, will be rescheduled for later. Fenchel is already on the hunt for a new space, and in case he's unsuccessful in securing one he's working on some special one-off events for this fall and next year, to be held at whatever hall will host them. If you have any leads for Fenchel, please e-mail him at info [at ] lampo [dot] org.
