Dubious Trends of the Day: Meggings and the Ralph Kramden

Meggings—aka leggings for men—are the latest item of clothing to get a man makeover (see the man-bag or "murse," and manpris for previous incarnations).

Arguably, though, meggings area natural extension of the ultra-skinny-jeans trend. And they're not even particularly new: Marni showed some on the runway back in 2007.

Leggings as a layer are a very practical approach to layering that women have been taking advantage of for lo these many seasons. But as pants? On men? Apologies to Russell Brand, but I'm already uncomfortable with that look at the ballet.

It's almost enough to make you feel sorry for the guys. It used to be that their biggest problem was deciding between pleats or flat-front. Now even the president gets guff for his baggy dad jeans.

On the other hand, apparently beer guts are now hip. Try getting away with one of those if you have two X chromosomes.
