"Only the white people can go there for the gold," a soldier tells a crowd of Guinean farmers displaced by a gold mine in Robert Nugent's "End of the Rainbow," screening Sunday, Aug. 8 at the DuSable Museum of African American History.

Exploring a remote community's transformation, along with the exploitation and resistance Nugent depicts indigenous miners initially expressing gratitude for the opportunity, and smug company men toasting their version of Manifest Destiny.

"Gold was what everyone wanted," Nugent says in his press materials, "but this is what they actually found...a senseless battle."

End of the Rainbow screens Sunday at 2 PM in the SankofaSpirit biweekly free screening series at the DuSable Museum, 750 E. 56th Place. It has its broadcast premiere Aug. 30 on PBS's "Global Voices."
