The way we live now

The past couple weekends I've been enjoying the fine weather by wandering around Bucktown and Wicker Park - turns out a perfect $1.70 taco at Taqueria Traspasada #2 (try the goat meat taco) followed by pie, Metropolis coffee, and a newspaper in the window seat at Hoosier Mama is a good way to start a Saturday - and I realized that I miss Filter. Much as it was easily dismissed as Overrun By Hipsters, having a non-Starbucks, or even just a coffee shop where you could sit down and that had a bathroom, was necessary.

Filter, as you'll recall, got bumped for a Bank of America location. Anyway, walking back home down Milwaukee, I realized there are BoA's bookending Milwaukee at Milwaukee/Damen/North and Milwaukee/Ashland/Division. Which, if you think about it, is really stupid. File under tiny reasons we're doomed.

Fortunately, there's a new (or at least new to me) Italian deli and coffee shop, Cipollina, just around the corner from M/D/W.

Update: Hmm. Also, I've said it before and I'll say it again: Mercury Cafe on Chicago is the best coffee shop in the city. Good coffee well made, milkshakes, in a big space with an, um, eclectic mix of comfy thrift-store furniture.
