209c/1248298285-nightbookmobile.jpgAuthor-artist Audrey Niffenegger lists her picks for "Best Books Ever" in the current issue of Newsweek.

Niffenegger chooses W.G. Sebold's Austerlitz ("a subtle and intensely sad novel that is Proustian in the best sense"), Henry James's The Turn of the Screw ("simply the best ghost story of all time"), Katherine Dunn's Geek Love ("a wild and tender book whose inventiveness always surprises me"), and The Paris Review Interviews ("the place to meet the most interesting writers since the '50s").

Niffenegger's next novel, Her Fearful Symmetry, is forthcoming from Scribner in September, and her exhibit of mixed-media drawings for "The Night Bookmobile," an illustrated story that was serialized in the UK's Guardian in 2008, runs through August 22 at Printworks; gallery hours are 11 to 5 Tuesday through Saturday.
