Sonotheque (1444 W. Chicago) presents a free screening of the 1951 French film Venom and Eternity, or Traité de bave et d'éternité, tonight at 6 PM as part of its Cinematheque Sonotheque series, which takes place the first Monday of every month. Former Reader critic Jonathan Rosenbaum says of the film, "It's a contradiction in terms to speak of a "classic" avant-garde film--especially one that aims at both extreme provocation and innovation--but this rarely screened masterpiece (1953) by Jean-Isidore Isou, poet and founder of the French Lettrist movement, qualifies if anything does."
