Hot looks

It's hot. And humid. Really hot and humid. And it's going to stay that way for a while. Dressing for this weather can be challenging, even if you don't have to be in some semi-professional environment. Even if you do have a couple fail-safe outfits, after a few commutes in a tube with other sticky people a hot-weather wardrobe can be quickly depleted.

Women have a little more leeway when it comes to the office dress code--except in the most conservative professions, we can generally get away with a light, short-sleeved shirt and a skirt in the office. But I always feel bad for the guys, who look seriously uncomfortable in button-downs, ties, and pants.

My hot-weather strategies include wearing dresses, natural fabrics, backless shoes (to avoid sweat-induced blisters). And carrying a paper parasol. Yes, a parasol. I like their old-fashioned air, and you'd be surprised at how much it helps to shield your face from the sun. Plus, your head doesn't get sweaty like it does with a hat. (They usually have some at Cost Plus World Market.)

What are your style solutions to ultra-hot weather? Ditching the bra? Changing at the office? Donning a kurta? Saying yes to shapeless Eileen Fisher linen shifts
